Please give us some more details on Elementary By SJ. How did you develop it, and what sets it apart?
Elementary by SJ started when I began posting my daily outfits on Instagram. We then bought a home that we remodeled, and it morphed into more of a "home" focused blog. Now, Elementary by SJ focuses on lifestyle content, making it a place to find everything.
What led you to choose Nostalgic Warehouse hardware?
I chose the hardware by considering my personal and home style. Most of the hardware in our house is brass, and the specific look of the hardware I chose fits the home's décor style; I love brass details! I became aware of Nostalgic Warehouse products through social media and, upon digging further into their socials, saw just how beautiful the hardware is. It really stuck out and looked very high quality!
Will you use this hardware again in other projects/areas of your home?
Yes, I would! We love the hardware and are very impressed by its high quality! The materials are substantial, and the finish is top-notch.
What is your design style, and how do you incorporate those decorating decisions within your home?
My design style is a mix of classic, modern, and rustic. I love to add wood touches to my décor style. I also consider my style when purchasing décor to ensure it flows well with the rest of my home.
When starting a project, how do you organize and plan for it?
I write/type out the projects I have in mind and list things within that project to purchase, change, etc. I also include links for items to buy. I will then make various mood boards to help design and style different spaces.
How did/do you choose a house to buy and renovate?
We chose our house based on the location, price, and layout. Our home is next to our best friends, which was a significant factor. It was also listed at a reasonable price point where we felt comfortable putting money into updating it. We ensured we would get a good return if we sold it at some point.
Were specific rooms of your home remodel more challenging than others?
The area that was the most challenging was our master closet and bathroom. Both rooms had significant water damage that needed to be fixed. We also had an issue with our shower floor tile and had to completely redo it.
What are some recommendations for readers who wish to do an extensive remodel project?
Research, research, research! Definitely gain as much knowledge as you can on whichever remodeling project you want to take on. Look at YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc., where many content creators have taken on large remodeling projects and shared tips and tricks.
What are some tips for readers who wish to make a smaller transformation in their home?
One tip would be to write down everything you want to do to your home and set goals to achieve what you want. Start with the smaller projects and move up to the bigger ones. Another tip is to shop your own home! Look for pieces in your home that you could rearrange or switch to a different room. You'd be surprised at how much that can change the look and feel of a room just by utilizing what you already own! I also like to make mood boards, showing how different things look together. I will even make mood boards containing items I already own and then add new items to see how they mix.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
