We are thrilled to share another partnership between Boxwood & Spruce and Nostalgic Warehouse. As a home decor lover, Kalyn Denno of Boxwood & Spruce always looks for unique and stylish pieces to elevate her space. From stunning porcelain knobs to charming unlacquered brass hardware, this partnership highlights some great door hardware combinations. Let's dive in and explore Kalyn's lovely home update.
Boxwood & Spruce is a home decor account where Kalyn Denno shares interior design ideas, simple DIYs, and affordable project flips. She loves showcasing inexpensive ways to add character to any home, giving it a storied and collected aesthetic. She also focuses on thrifting and ways to get a look for less.
Kalyn and her family recently finished a two-and-a-half-year remodel. The build was a two-part build, as they first converted their 4-stall horse barn into a 2-bedroom "barndominium." They moved into the completed barn and then began work on the home remodel. Although it was a long and agonizing process, they couldn't be happier with how it turned out!
Kalyn has always been drawn to turn-of-the-century homes built in the early 1900s. She notes, "The craftsmanship and character in these homes were so thought out and charming. Homes today, sadly, often don't possess these same qualities." While remodeling their house, Kalyn wanted to incorporate as many salvaged or "older" looking items as possible to create an "old" home with new bones. So, naturally, the door hardware at Nostalgic Hardware was the perfect choice! Additionally, she had always longed for a home with porcelain knobs. "We love that Nostalgic Warehouse has various porcelain options, allowing us to mix and match with unlacquered brass long plates… another must-have!"
Various door hardware styles are a significant aspect of Kalyn's home. They used an assortment of knob options throughout their home, from black porcelain to white porcelain to crystal. However, using a common backplate color is the key to keeping things looking consistent. In this case, it was the unlacquered brass finish. She wrote an entire blog post detailing how to mix and match door hardware and how she used the various styles from Nostalgic Warehouse throughout her home. Following her simple guidelines, you will mix and match door hardware like a pro and add instant character throughout your home!
Kalyn loves blending old and new to give her home a warm and inviting aesthetic. She also tries to incorporate salvaged items into the build wherever she can. They used old beams from the stables and installed salvaged French doors from an antique store in their new home. They then incorporated reproduction items, such as push button light switches and vintage-inspired door hardware, when they couldn't find vintage items. Kalyn also loves decorating with thrifted items. She says, "To achieve a collected and storied home, purchase older, second-hand items."
When asked where she finds design inspiration, Kalyn pointed out Jean Stoffer, Whitney Parkinson, and Park & Oak Design. "Their style is so timeless and classic." She also finds a lot of great ideas on Instagram, a great place to connect with other home design enthusiasts.
Kalyn is finally enjoying the home she and her family have created. She also works on small flip projects to sell or use around the house and plans on having their barndominium ready to rent via Airbnb. Be on the lookout for that if you ever want to visit beautiful Golden, Colorado! More info can be found on her Instagram (@boxwoodandspruce) or website, www.boxwoodandspruce.com. Additionally, her cabin in Winter Park, CO, can be found on her website and is also available via Airbnb.
Thank you to Kalyn for another great partnership!
