Skye Fisher started the Fisher Design Company as an evolving process of trial and error. She began her career as a Visual Merchandiser, then owned and operated a home staging business, branched into interior design, and now runs a home decor shop. Her unique design aesthetic incorporates what she admires from her travels to New England and other places, which sets Fisher Design Company apart. Skye also includes a variety of antiques and other personal items from her clients in each project.
The storefront for Fisher Design Company was recently rebuilt. It includes two commercial spaces on the ground floor and one residential apartment on the second floor. Skye noted, "The commercial building code was complicated to navigate because it was something we have never done before, and it altered many design decisions, making it very challenging." One easy part of the renovation process was choosing which door hardware to use: our Nostalgic Warehouse Studio Collection.
Skye wanted traditional entry sets in a brass finish and had always admired Nostalgic Warehouse pieces, so she knew she wanted to include them in the design. She loved the detail of the Studio Entry Sets and chose them with both the Deco Knobs and the Fleur Levers. The levers were an excellent option for the accessibility components of the commercial side of the building.
When asked if she would use this hardware again, Skye said, "Absolutely; moving forward, I would like to use Nostalgic Warehouse for every project!" She also mentioned the importance of including entry sets and door hardware in the design and home-building budget. "Every detail about designing a home/building is important, down to your entry sets!"
Skye's design style is traditionalism mixed with cottage core elements. She adds these components into her designs by including antiques, rich colors, and lots of pattern play. She finds inspiration in anything related to House and Garden UK, Interior Designers/Decorators that she admires, Pinterest, travel, books, Nancy Meyers, and more.
When starting a project, Skye typically begins with a questionnaire to understand what the client wants done, their timeline, budget, and design style. Next, they set up a site meeting to discuss the project further. For this personal project, Skye chose the location rather than the building. The building wasn't in the best shape, but the location was perfect for what she wanted. Her ultimate dream is to purchase a century home in the ideal location to restore.
Skye's tips for those who wish to take on large remodeling projects include researching, hiring a professional, staying organized, and having some flexibility with your budget. If the budget isn't big enough, do a few spaces exactly how you want them and save the rest for another time. Her tips for readers who wish to make a minor home transformation are, "Take your time, use your resources, find your design style, and do what works best for your family and will be the most appealing and functional for your home."
Looking to the future, Skye has a client new-build project wrapping up and is now starting a kitchen renovation for another set of clients. Up next is the opening of her Home Shop. She definitely stays busy! Thank you, Skye, for sharing your time and this lovely project with our readers and us!
