How did you develop your blog and Instagram account, The Kurtz Home, and what sets it apart?
The Kurtz Home is where people can find DIY projects and home life. I share simple projects for people with busy schedules to help women build confidence with tools and themselves. I started because I wanted to elevate my home but couldn't afford to pay someone else to do it, so I began to teach myself how.
What is your process for updating your home? Have there been specific rooms that were more challenging than others?
I tackle 1-2 rooms a year and learn new skills along the way. The kitchen was the most challenging space, and I learned many new things through that renovation.
What led you to choose Nostalgic Warehouse hardware?
I selected this hardware because it compliments my style and home. It's sleek and modern with a touch of vintage. The Antique Brass New York long plates with the Black Porcelain knob are stunning and add the finishing touch to all my rooms. How long did this project take to complete?
Changing the door hardware took just a few hours, and the entire bedroom had been in the works for a few months.
Will you use this hardware again in other projects/areas of your home?
I will use this hardware every chance I get. With each space I makeover, I update the hardware. It finishes the entire room design; it's the icing on the cake for me.
What is your design style, and how do you incorporate those decorating decisions within your home?
I design to make bold statements within my color palette. I want my home to feel custom and personalized for my family. It's a blend of modern/traditional/ contemporary that brings it all together. My husband and I love mid-century modern, so many of our pieces reflect this style.
Where do you find design inspiration?
Everywhere! It seems cliche, but I find inspiration in so many things. Historical buildings are my favorite, which is why I love Nostalgic Warehouse.
When starting a project, how do you organize and plan for it?
I'm a huge fan of a written planner, where I list everything from materials to a timeline. I also always start with a mood board to guide my decisions.
What are some recommendations for readers wishing to undertake an extensive remodel project?
Take your time! Live in the space, if you can, before you remodel to get an idea of what you want and need from the space.
What are some tips for readers who wish to transform their homes in more minor ways?
Paint and hardware are the best bang for your buck - whether you rent or own, these can elevate your home.
Are you working on any other properties or projects besides your own home?
Yes, I'm working on a kitchen renovation for my mother-in-law. Then my office and hallway are next on the list.
